Thermography is a whole body analysis for assessing temperature variations in the body using an Infrared thermal camera. Just like the oral thermometer which has been used for many years, changes in temperature indicate disease processes. Finely tuned technology can find abnormalities and silent inflammation long before the body’s sensory organs can identify them. This is true for breast cancer, thyroid dysfunction, inflammation leading to cancer, heart disease, and many other diseases.
Thermography vs. Mammography
Thermography is a non-invasive way to screen for breast cancer without radiation or compression. It uses state of the art technology that assesses hot spots in the breast through infrared imaging. Comparative exams can create a baseline for monitoring breast health based on thermal changes over time.
Breast thermography research has over 800 articles in the published literature. It was FDA cleared as an adjunctive screening for breast cancer in 1982. Some new research has been done and it is highly favorable. However, it is slow to be implemented as a standard test in breast cancer detection due to lack of funding of large scale studies. Since it is apparent that there is already a large amount of income derived from breast cancer marketing and mammography, there is no need to create a mechanism of earlier detection with breast thermography. Many thermography experts have proposed the idea that the advancement has even been blocked.
